The Esssentials
Let the following points guide you in your journey back to heaven:
- Have a set goal.
You may like to become a saint, a disciple or a perfect son of God. Moses wanted to see God and he succeeded.
- Develop positive attitude to life.
Your attitude to life matters much. You are expected to receive everyday happenings with neutral mind and open heart. Do not be the complaining type. Understand that in every situation, God works for the eventual good of His people. What you are encountering or suffering now may be a stepping stone to higher spiritual attainment. It is only in spirit and in heaven that we understand and then appreciate our earthly encounters and experiences.
- Dissolve your ego.
Ego (selfishness) is a major hindrance to spiritual growth. Unfortunately, majority are busy building up their ego, when in fact God expects them to dissolve it. You must do just as Jesus said: whoever that wants to follow Him must deny himself, take up his cross and follow Him (bear his destiny and responsibilities with joy).
- Develop the habit of observation.
Once you start spiritual practice, observe your life, notice changes and improvements. The more you notice general improvements in your life, the more you become committed and the more understanding and experience you can have.
- Become perfect by doing, not by waiting.
We improve ourselves by doing, and not by waiting. Therefore, start now to live the life of a saint, by performing all your duties as service offering rendered to the Absolute Truth, God. Do so without expecting rewards, thanks, praises, persuasion or force.
- Keen interest and personal efforts.
Our desires and efforts for spiritual growth should be out of joyful volition and keen interest. It is not what you do just because you have being told to do it or because your friends and relations are doing it.
- Appreciate even the little things.
Develop the habit of thanksgiving and praising God, by chanting His name, singing praises in your heart or by praying in silence. Remember that every creation is a wonder.
- Recognize the primary aim of earthly life.
Always remember that your engagement in spiritual practice is the primary reason why you were sent (born) into the world. It is intended to enable you gain spiritual knowledge and wisdom. Those who neglect this very important duty are delaying their spiritual progress and are making themselves bound to series of reincarnation, instead of overcoming the world to leave it permanently and attain heaven. Jesus said that where your treasure is, there your heart is. And I add that where your heart is, there you are. Your treasures refer to the things you value in life. Those who value heaven more, live a saintly life and they attain heaven even before they die. But those who value the things of the world, and spend their everyday life accumulating earthly wealth, make themselves bound to the world.
